Terrace Hill Head Golf Professional Ken Juhn is a native of Salem, Ohio. Ken fell in love with golf at a very early age and moved to Florida to continue his education while striving to reach a higher level of achievement in the game. Ken attended FSU for a short time before transferring to FIU where he played intercollegiate golf.
It was at FIU where Ken’s golfing life would change forever. Ken’s golf coach at FIU was Bobby Shave. Bobby who himself had been a consistent money winner on the PGA Tour introduced Ken to “Wild Bill” Mehlhorn. Ben Hogan and Tommy Armour had both been quoted as saying that Bill Mehlhorn was the finest hitter of a golf ball that they had ever seen.
Ken quickly adapted to Mehlhorn’s comprehensive style spending the next fourteen years learning everything he could from Bill. Ken teaches Bill’s theories to his students to this day.
Ken graduated from FIU with a BS Degree in Hospitality Management and spent the next ten years playing tournament golf while working as the Head Women’s Golf coach at FIU. During ten years at FIU Ken’s teams qualified to play in the AIAW national championship once and the Division I NCAA National Championship three times. During the 1984-85 season Ken’s team achieved a third place NCAA midseason national rank. Ken was honored that year at Nationals in Cape Cod as NCAA Division I Regional Coach of the Year for the South Region.
Ken is extremely proud that besides having a 90%+ graduation rate several of his team members went on to successful careers on the LPGA Tour. Three of Ken’s team members from FIU have a total of eight wins on the LPGA Tour. One of his players, Mary Beth Zimmerman, held the “all time” record of eight consecutive birdies (since broken) in an LPGA Tour event.
Ken has been a class “A” member of the PGA of America for twenty three years and is beginning his fourth year as the Head Golf Professional at Terrace Hill Golf Club.
Before moving to Tampa Ken was employed as the Head Golf Professional at Fontainebleau Golf Club for more than thirteen years.
Since taking over as the Head Golf Professional at Terrace Hill Ken has continued to work to share the knowledge passed on from Bill Mehlhorn and Bobby Shave to all of his students. Ken teaches both private and group lessons and works closely with Jeff Leonard of the “First Tee of Tampa Bay” which is headquartered at Terrace Hill.
Most recently, Ken is proud of his association with AVAST, the James A Haley Veterans Hospital and the Adaptive Golf Foundation of America. Ken has been hosting both weekly and monthly clinics for disabled American Veterans and others at Terrace Hill since September 2007.
